Looking for breakfast near the Sydney CBD before work? Cappadocia Cafe opens at 6am weekdays, a short walk east of Hyde Park, with fast plates and good coffee.
Finding a good breakfast in the Sydney CBD before 7am is harder than it should be. The towers are full of people by then, but a lot of city cafes are still stacking chairs, and the ones that are open tend to be built for speed rather than for eating well. If you want a proper plate and a coffee made with care before the working day starts, it pays to look just past the edge of the city.
That is where we are. Cappadocia Cafe sits on Stanley Street in Darlinghurst, a short walk east of Hyde Park, and we open at 6am every weekday. This is a guide to making breakfast near the Sydney CBD part of your morning rather than an afterthought.
Where We Are, and How Long It Takes
Stanley Street runs between Riley and Crown Streets, just south of William Street. From the eastern side of Hyde Park it is roughly a five minute walk, and from Museum station about seven. From the middle of the CBD, around Martin Place or Town Hall, allow ten to fifteen minutes on foot. Kings Cross station is about eight minutes away in the other direction.
That walk is the point. It turns breakfast into a small daily ritual: a stroll under the Hyde Park figs, a table on a quiet street, and a coffee you actually taste before the inbox takes over.
Open Early, Every Weekday
We open at 6am Monday to Friday and 7am on weekends. The first hour is the calmest of the day. Early shift workers, runners coming back from the Domain, hospital staff from St Vincent's up the road and a steady line of regulars who like to eat before the city wakes up.
What to Order When You Are Short on Time
If you have ten minutes, these come out fast and travel well:
- Egg roll ($13): a soft roll with egg, cheese and BBQ sauce, with a choice of sucuk, pastirma, halloumi or mushrooms.
- Eggs on toast ($13): free-range eggs on sourdough with cherry tomato and cucumber. Simple and done right.
- Cheese toastie ($10): mozzarella and cheese on Turkish bread, pressed until golden.
- Classic Turkish toastie ($15): Turkish bread with cheese, sucuk and tomato, the tost Istanbul runs on.
- A flat white or long black (from $4.50), or a pistachio latte (from $5.50) if the day needs something special.
What to Order When You Can Sit Down
With twenty minutes you can eat the way breakfast should be eaten.
- Menemen ($20): Turkish eggs scrambled softly through tomato and green pepper, finished with mozzarella and served with Turkish bread.
- Avocado toast ($19): sourdough, smashed avo, cherry tomato, feta, a poached egg, rocket and parmesan.
- Halloumi breakfast ($25): grilled halloumi, two eggs, smashed avocado, leaves, olives and toast.
- Stanley Big Breakfast ($28): for the day that needs fuel, with eggs, beef sausage, pastirma, hash browns, mushroom, tomato, beans and sourdough.
- Acai bowl ($18): the lighter choice, with banana, berries, almond, chia and coconut.
Coffee Worth the Walk
Our espresso is specialty coffee pulled fresh all morning, and we also brew Turkish coffee the traditional way, slowly, in a copper cezve. If you have never tried it, a Turkish coffee ($5.50) before work is a different kind of wake up: thick, fragrant and served with a glass of water and something sweet on the side.
Weekend Breakfast Near the City
On Saturdays and Sundays we open at 7am, and the mood changes completely. The early crowd is walkers and runners coming through Hyde Park, visitors staying in the city hotels who want to get away from the towers, and neighbours who have made Stanley Street their weekend routine. It is the best time to try a full Turkish breakfast, when nobody has a meeting to get to and the tea keeps coming.
Breakfast Meetings and Office Orders
A cafe a short walk from the city is an easy place for a breakfast meeting that does not feel like the office. Tables can be booked online, and if the whole team needs feeding we also cater breakfast for offices across Sydney.
Breakfast from 6am weekdays at 82-84 Stanley St, Darlinghurst, a short walk from Hyde Park and the Sydney CBD.
