The Story

The mocha takes its name from the Yemeni port city of Mocha (Al-Mukha), which was the world's dominant coffee exporter from the 15th to 17th centuries. The coffee exported from Mocha was naturally earthy with chocolatey, wine-like notes — so the name became synonymous with that flavour profile long before anyone added actual chocolate to coffee.

The modern mocha drink — espresso combined with chocolate and steamed milk — was popularised in American specialty cafes during the 1980s. It offers coffee lovers a sweet, indulgent alternative to straight espresso drinks, with chocolate complementing and softening the bitterness of the coffee while adding richness.

At Cappadocia, our mocha is made with premium Belgian chocolate sauce stirred through a double espresso before steamed milk is added — creating a deeply flavoured, indulgent drink that satisfies both coffee and chocolate cravings in one cup.
